The permit is the whole job, and it is not quick

In most of Dubai a move permit is a formality that takes a couple of working days. In Downtown it is the thing your date depends on. The application goes to community management with your tenancy contract, your Emirates ID and the details of the moving company, and it is approved for a specific date and a specific window.

That window is genuinely enforced. If your permit says the move finishes at six, security will stop the lift at six. It is the single strongest argument against paying a mover by the hour in this community, because a delay you did not cause becomes a bill you did not expect, and then a second day.

We submit the applications at both ends and chase them. What we need from you is the tenancy documentation and your signature, early. If you are moving on the last weekend of the month, the request needs to be in well before that, because everyone else in Downtown is moving then too.

Old Town is a different move from the Boulevard towers

The Boulevard towers behave like other high rise Dubai buildings. Underground loading bay, height limit, booked service lift, permit, deposit. Tight, busy, but familiar.

Old Town is low rise and laid out around pedestrian lanes, which is lovely to live in and awkward to move out of. In several buildings you cannot park at the door at all. The truck goes to an agreed drop point and everything is trolleyed in from there, sometimes a good distance, sometimes with a step or a turn that a wardrobe will not make assembled.

That carry is the whole cost difference between an Old Town move and a Boulevard one of the same size. We walk the route at the survey and tell you honestly how it changes the crew and the hours, rather than finding out on the morning with your permit window running.

Protecting what is in a Downtown apartment

Homes here tend to carry more fragile and more expensive furniture than average. Marble and stone table tops, large mirrors and framed art, glass display units, and televisions that cost more than the rest of the living room together.

Stone tops travel flat on boards, never on edge on a blanket, because a marble top that flexes will crack across the middle and there is no repairing it. Mirrors and art are taped, corner protected, wrapped and carried upright. Televisions go in their own cartons with corner blocks.

The building protection matters just as much, because the deposit is real money. Floor runners, padded lift walls and door frame guards go in at both ends before the first carton moves, and that is included rather than charged as an extra.

What changes the price of a Downtown move

Volume sets the base and access adjusts it, the same as anywhere. What is different here is that the permit window puts a hard edge on the day, so the crew has to be sized to finish inside it rather than merely to finish.
