Single items, part loads and deliveries that stop at the door

A lot of furniture in Dubai changes hands between residents. People leave the country, upgrade a living room or clear out a spare bedroom, and the listing always says collection only. We do those collections. We meet the seller at the agreed time, wrap the item in their home rather than in the truck, load it and bring it to you.

Store deliveries are the other common call. A flat pack order from a large store usually stops at your front door, and in some buildings only at the lobby. Carrying a boxed wardrobe up a stairwell and then building it is a separate job that the delivery driver is not paid to do. We take the boxes up, assemble the item, place it where you want it and take the cardboard away.

Part loads work the same way. If you are moving one bedroom out of a shared flat, or taking half the furniture to a villa and leaving the rest behind, there is no sense in paying for a full home move. We quote for the items on the list and nothing else. Short notice and same day jobs are often possible when a crew and a small truck are free, so it is worth calling to ask rather than assuming the answer is no.

Measure the door and the lift before you buy

Three measurements decide a furniture job: the narrowest doorway on the route, the internal width and depth of the lift, and the height of the lift door. Write them down before you buy anything large. It takes five minutes and it prevents a long argument later.

A two seater sofa is often harder than a wardrobe, which surprises people. A wardrobe comes apart into flat panels and goes through anything. A sofa is one welded frame wrapped in foam, so its width and its diagonal are fixed, and the only way through a tight door is to angle it and hope. Deep corner units and recliners are harder again, because the mechanism adds depth that cannot be reduced.

If the lift is too small we look at the stairwell, and stairs have their own limits: the landing turn, the handrail and the ceiling height above the flight. Sometimes the answer is that the item goes up the stairs with four people instead of two. Occasionally the answer is that it will not go up at all, and it is far better to know that before you have paid for it.

How we wrap, dismantle and rebuild

Furniture is blanket wrapped in the room it is standing in, not once it reaches the truck. Corners take most of the damage in any move, so corners get card or foam protection on top of the blanket. Upholstery is covered rather than shrink wrapped tight to the fabric, because plastic pressed onto leather or polish in Dubai heat can leave a mark that does not come out.

Beds, wardrobes, dining tables and desks come apart before they are carried. The fixings for each item go into a labelled bag taped to that piece, so the bolts for your bed frame do not end up loose in the bottom of the truck. At the other end the crew rebuilds everything and levels it before they leave, rather than leaving you to finish a bed frame at midnight.

Marble, granite and glass tops travel on edge and never flat, because a stone slab carried flat will crack under its own weight. They go upright in a frame against the side of the truck. Tell us at the quote stage if a table has a stone or glass top, because it changes how many people we send. If you want the old sofa or bed taken away at the same time we can remove it, but it cannot simply be left beside the bins, because bulky waste in the city is handled through Dubai Municipality services.

What moving furniture in Dubai costs

A single item job is priced on the item, the access at both ends and the distance, not on the size of your home. Two movers collecting a sofa from a ground floor flat in Al Quoz and delivering it to a building with a working service lift is a short job. The same sofa going to a fourth floor with no lift is a different price, because it needs more people and more time.
